2019 Lincoln Nautilus Review

It is not every day that a well-known car name simply ceases to exist. No more Lincoln MKX. Welcome, 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. In an effort to change the letter-only nomenclature for all of their cars, Lincoln has changed the name of their mid-size SUV to something more relatable - the Nautilus, which is Latin for a sailor. After customers dearly accepted the revived Continental nameplate, it was decided - the trend will continue with their models.

Better Looking Mid-Size SUV

Apart from getting a new name, the car we once called the MKX actually received a fine makeover. It is not an entirely new model, but Nautilus is a fine departure from the MKX. According to the executives, everything in front of the A-pillar has been modified. A new mesh grille, new headlights, new bumpers, and new styling details dominate. Robert Parker, Director of Marketing, Sales, and Service, actually said that the new face looks better on the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus compared to any other car they have introduced. It does look lavish, opulent and somewhat aristocratic compared to the previous MKX face. The rear, on the other hand, hasn’t been changed that much. New dark-tinted lights that span across the rear tailgate looks a bit better.

Do Not Expect Anything Radically New on The Inside

The inside did not gain any radical transformations, but a few smart options to ease up the life for the occupants and the driver. Concealed wireless charging system, larger touch screen, 12.3-inch fully configurable digital instrument cluster are all new or at least updated. Although the design of the interior is the same as before, Lincoln tried to freshen things up a bit. New elements include more comprehensive ambient lighting, finer leather on the steering wheel and, for the Reserve model, Ultra Comfort seats. These can be adjusted in 22 different positions to provide the ultimate comfort. They can cool, heat, and massage. Coupling such luxury with that new ambient lighting and 19-speaker Revel® audio systems definitely creates a rather pleasant surrounding for long journeys.

Technologies helping with driving are numerous, like:

  • Lane-centering feature that pairs with adaptive cruise control
  • Evasive steer assist
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection
  • Blind Spot Information System
  • Active park assistance
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Lane-keeping aid
  • Auto-hold feature

Obviously, this is a luxury car

You, however, wouldn’t think it is considering its entry-level version is powered by a small four-cylinder motor. Two-liter turbocharged unit develops 245 HP with an Auto Start-Stop capabilities and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Two-liter is not the only engine option though. The same Auto Start-Stop and eight-speed automatic setup is part of the 2019 Nautilus with the 2.7-liter turbocharged engine. This one delivers healthy 335hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The reason for the smaller engine offering is probably due to the fact that 2019 Lincoln Nautilus will be one of the most important Lincoln cars in China, where two-liter, four-cylinder engines aren't nearly as expensive to insure and register than higher-displacement ones. After all, China is the prime market for Lincoln.

Regardless, the car is definitely well suited for America as well. Especially considering its top-notch Black Label version. Lincoln Nautilus Black Label provides a “unique personalized experience.”
