Top 10 Most Expensive Wheels

Vossen Novitec NV1 with a matte Space Grey Finish
When I told my wife I was writing a piece on the most expensive wheels on the market and told her what a person could spend, her first response was “You’re not buying any right?” I assured her I’d rather buy a nice fishing boat then put new rims on our ride. Then she proceeded to explain why the five-digit price tags weren’t really all that unreasonable.
AUG 07, 2019

“If you wanted to makeover an automobile” she reasoned, “you might want to change its color with a new paint job. That paint job is the equivalent of a new dress. Now a new dress can make you look great, but the right accessories can make you look like a knockout. A hot new dress may set you back a couple of hundred but a diamond bracelet, necklace, and matching earrings are going to cost a bunch more…but they’re worth it.”  She kissed me on the forehead and announced she was leaving to shop for “accessories.”

So there you have it. Expensive wheels are principally car bling according to my wife. And she’s not too far off the mark. Yes, you can get superior metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and beautiful designs, but it’s unlikely you’ll risk scraping them on a curb much less running them on a track. Their basic value is their exclusivity and appearance.

So how much can you spend? You probably already know the most expensive wheels ever made, but in case you haven’t, we added them to our list. Note that we have listed the price for a set of four. We did that for the same reason earrings are priced for the pair not by the earring.

Top 10 Most Expensive Wheels

Least expensive to most.

Vossen Novitec NV1 with a matte Space Grey finish

10. Vossen Novitec NV1 - $10,000

To start off our list of the most expensive wheels is Vossen Novitec NV1 with a matte Space Grey finish. Vossen makes some pretty fine wheels thanks to their unique manufacturing process they call “freeflow.” That’s a process that combines advanced and traditional casting processes that increase strength while decreasing weight and that’s a good thing. Freeflow also allows Vossen to make a variety of widths without compromising strength.

Asanti AF862 Brushed 5 Lug

9. Asanti AF 862 - $14,400

One of the best known and respected brands in the rim biz, When you order a set of Asanti wheels it’s like commissioning a sculptor. GFG Forged FM201

8. GFG Forged Wheels - $15,200

If you drive a sportscar, and we mean something in the Lamborghini or Ferrari class, then you need to take a hard look at what GFG has to offer. They have been redefining the rims on exotic and luxury sportscars since their founding in 1997. They seem to be catching on. The company says over a million drivers have opted for their wheels since they started the business.

Lexani Forged Wheels LF-768 Dawn Custom Finish

6. Lexani Forged - $16,400

Another well-known brand and one you will frequently find bolted to the axles of Bentley and Rolls Royce sedans. Not gaudy at all, the Lexani is simple sophistication personified, perfect for the luxury market. Five thin spokes on a wide wheel are understatements of the grace and exclusivity that these wheels exude. Lexani has many award-winning designs and has often been called the wheel makers of the future.

5. Forgiato Basamento - $18,400

Big rides need bling too. If you have a BMW X6 or a tricked-out Wrangler with a 4-inch lift and a set of ginormous tires, you need Forgiato wheels. Made in Los Angeles from U.S. parts, the company specializes in larger sizes. You want unique, they custom make the wheels and can even match the carbon fiber paint on your ride, Would you expect less from a wheel maker that has its own auto show?

Mercedes-Benz G Wagon with Forgiato Estremo

4. Forgiato Estremos - $22,800

If you thought the Basamento was pricy, you probably don’t want to consider the Estremos. So, what do you get? You get a 3 piece forged rim made from aircraft-grade aluminum that you have a major say in the design. You pick the degree of convexity or concavity, the finish, and if you want to match the color of your ride. And of course, you own a Forgiato original.

Nutek 708 Series R8 Concave (secretentourage.com)

It may sound a little goofy, but they are unique and for those who strive for exclusivity, Nutek can’t be beaten.

BMW 5 Series on Vossen VLE-1 (Autoevolution)

2. Vossen VLE-1 - $40,000

In 2014 Vossen introduced their VLE-1 which is a good wheel. As part of the rollout, they sent 20 sets to dealers without any pricing info. One dealer promptly advertised them online for $40,000 per set. It’s unknown if they ever sold for that price, but you can buy the same wheelset today for about $10,400.

Asanti Stone Series Luxury Wheels (Topinho)

And finally, first on our list of the most expensive wheels is the Asanti Diamond, that's valued at $1,000,000. That’s right, a million bucks, and they have actually sold a few of these. They are diamond-encrusted wheels (or select the gem of your choice) guaranteed to be eye-catching should you ever actually take them out in public. But it’s a better deal than you might think. Pick up a set of four of these beauties and Asanti will throw in a new Bentley GT and 24/7 security on the rims for a full year.
